Journal Graphics Expands Print Capabilities with Goss M-600

  • Five-unit one-web Goss M-600 press to provide exceptional print quality, quick make-readies and address short runs
  • Goss Contiweb VITS-Rotocut sheeter chosen for high-speed cover production

Drupa, June 2nd 2016 – Journal Graphics, specializing in publication, commercial, catalog, and direct-mail with full bindery capabilities, will install a sixteen-page Goss M-600 press system and Contiweb VITS-Rotocut sheeter at its facility in Portland, Oregon, USA. With a high level of automation, the five-unit, one-web configuration has been devised specifically to increase output and press uptime, while maintaining the level of print quality Journal Graphics demands.

“At Journal Graphics, we always strive to anticipate our customers’ requirements and deliver quality and efficiency,” comments Phil Bridge, CEO of Journal Graphics. “We therefore look to install the latest, most reliable technology that will enhance our print capabilities and meet the changing needs of our customers. The M-600 will enable us to better meet short and long-run print requirements as well as expand our product capabilities and ensure we can do this faster, more efficiently and with higher quality than our competitors. In addition, our company is renowned for high-quality print and there can be no compromise in our production standards. These have been the guiding principles behind this decision to invest with Goss.”

The specification includes Goss Autoplate automatic plate changing for all five units and Goss Omnicon press controls with Omni Make Ready. The choice of Goss JF55 folder, allows a variety of folding options – such as quarterfold, delta, and double parallel – with minimum paper waste. This provides pagination flexibility and enables Journal Graphics to produce a broad range of formats on the M600 system, including magazine, tabloid, square tab and digest.

Also included in the order is a Goss Ecocool/T dryer which features integrated chill rolls. In addition, the model for Journal Graphics has an integrated afterburner as well as a Goss Contiweb web guide and web break detection system and Goss Contiweb VITS-Rotocut S sheeter, rated to 60,000 iph with shaftless design.

Contiweb CS zero speed splicer completes the equipment line-up. Featuring a 50-inch diameter roll and operating at speeds up to 10.5 m/s. Remote diagnostics will provide additional back-up for failsafe splicer control.

Dave Gilmore, Goss district sales manager – West, comments, “Dianne Bullas, President of Journal Graphics, approached this latest investment decision with a clear focus on the next step in the company’s development and a drive to deliver the best solution for both customers and employees. This investment not only demonstrates a commitment to print but also the importance of quick make-ready, low waste and versatile print solutions in servicing discerning customers. We are pleased to partner with Journal Graphics, providing this M-600 press in early 2017 with the press units and folder to be manufactured in New Hampshire.”

Journal Graphics traces its beginnings to the Daily Journal of Commerce Newspaper founded in 1925. Entering commercial printing in 1937, it became a separate division in 1996.

Dianne Bullas, President, Journal Graphics, states, “Providing a high-quality product, treating our customers fairly and being a responsible member of our community remain among our company’s highest priorities.”
